Thank you to all who came out on Wednesday afternoon to help celebrate the prestigious honor given to Strandwood: The National Blue Ribbon Award.

The music (supplied by one of our awesome parents, Mr. Sambajon) set a festive vibe as the students took their seats. Principal Scripter kicked off the celebration pumping up the kids with cheers and recognition of their hard work. They got to hear from some very special guests: MDUSD Superintendent, Dr. Nellie Meyer as well as former Strandwood Principal, Liz Kim, who got into the spirit as usual, showing off her dance moves to the student's cheers. Then we were treated to a special and moving performance of "What A Wonderful World," by the entire student body, who sang and used sign language, thanks to music teacher Ms. Becky Stewart!

As Mrs. Kim reminded us all, it was not due to any "one entity" that achieved this award, it was indeed a result of the hard work of MANY together: students, teachers, parents, administration. Congratulations to all Roadrunners!

The 2017-18 Academic Calendar can be found here.  The first day for students is August 22nd.

Parents with new students to the district can begin the registration process online anytime (https://air.mdusd.org/air/), which is preferred, and then pick up a supplemental packet in the office or parents can pick up a complete paper registration packet in the office for completion.

Office hours are 7:30-3:30 on school days.  The office will remain open with limited coverage from June 14-June 28.  Signs will be posted on the door when closed for lunch or off-site trainings.  The office is closed for the month of July.  The office will re-open on August 1st with coverage from 7:30am- 3pm, however may be closed intermittently for off-site trainings/meetings.

Included in the supplemental packet are documents that pertain to Strandwood, including a request for early or late friend assignment (for TK/Kindergarteners).  A lottery system will be used to select the student’s assignments.

Please email strandattend@mdusd.org with REGISTRATION APPT in the subject line and an email will be sent to make an appointment via SignUpGenius to complete the registration process.

Please bring the online printout and/or the completed paperwork along with the following documents:

Upcoming dates:

May 24th: Strandwood Open House from 6:30-8pm.  Students (current and perspective) are welcome to tour the classrooms and see the work the students in the classroom created during the year.

On May 26, we will conduct a Kindergarten assessment for each student (no assessment for TK) at Strandwood.

In June, TK/Kindergartners will receive Early or Late Friend assignment via mail.

On August 17th, Strandwood staff and PTA will host a Jump Start day for new and returning students, Grades 1-5, to verify emergency contact information.  This is a time for parents to get involved with our amazing PTA.  Students will receive their teacher assignments at this time.  This day is organized with time slots by last name.  Once identified, these will be posted. Kindergarteners will receive their teacher assignments via mail in August.
