Helpful Information

Here are some helpful tips to ensure that you make it through the school year with ease!

Communication Folders: Communication folders (your child's Strandwood folder) should be sent to school with your child EVERY day. I often pass out important information throughout the week that will go home in your child's folder. Please check your child's folder nightly and remove all papers that were sent home that day. Folders should be empty when returned to school unless you are turning in homework, field trip permission slips, Read and Dream logs, etc.

Homework: Homework packets are sent home on Monday; they should be completed and returned to school on Friday. Homework packets include sight word, language arts, and math practice pages. Please do not leave partially completed homework packets in your child's folder throughout the week-- I may mistake it for a completed packet and remove it from your child's folder! Homework should be turned in on Fridays only

In addition to completing the weekly homework packet, children are required to read for 15 minutes each night (this can also be YOU reading to your child). Record your reading minutes on your Read and Dream log!

It is also expected that your child complete one iReady lesson per week at home. They are free to choose whether they'd like to complete a reading lesson or a math lesson. Blue slips x5 will be written for each iReady lesson completed at home! More information about iReady will be given this fall...stay tuned!

Blue Slips: Blue slips are as good as money for Kindergartners! Your child can earn blue slips by turning in homework on time, completing iReady lessons at home, reading sight word books to you, or doing an outstanding job in the classroom or at recess! Save the blue slips!! When your child has collected 100 blue slips, take them to the office and turn them in--- your child will be able to pick a prize AND will be allowed to go to the Ice Cream Social at the end of the month with our Principal, Dr. Scripter!

Read and Dream: Read and Dream logs are due the LAST Friday of every month. Once your child has reached 420 minutes of reading, they will get to attend the Read and Dream awards ceremony where they will be able to choose a new book to keep at home! "Left over" minutes will roll over each month!

Scholastic Book Orders: Scholastic book order magazines will be sent home at the beginning of each month. The EASIEST way to order books is online!! When ordering online, be sure to enter our class code: Q6GDD. Using our class code will give our class BONUS POINTS which allows me to order FREE books for our classroom!

Birthdays: We LOVE celebrating birthdays in D2! You are welcome to send a treat for our class to honor your child's birthday. Birthday goodies should be dropped off with your child at morning drop off time (7:55 AM). Please send a treat that is easy for your child to pass out, example: cookies, gummies, brownies, etc.  NO cupcakes please!-- they are very difficult and messy for 5/6 year olds!
